Cristiano Ronaldo has been advised to consider retirement by a close friend to avoid the risk of a diminished presence, such as scoring only “six goals in the Saudi League.”
At 39, Ronaldo continues to defy expectations, still active in Portugal’s national team with 214 caps and aiming for the 2026 World Cup.
At the club level, Ronaldo scored 50 goals for Al-Nassr last season and has started the current campaign well. However, his contract with Al-Nassr expires at the end of the season, with no extension agreed upon yet.
Former Liverpool player Mark Lawrenson believes Ronaldo should have a close friend suggest retirement before his performance wanes. Lawrenson commented to Paddy Power, “Cristiano Ronaldo is still scoring in Saudi Arabia, but would he sign a new contract there? I’m not sure.
This is when I think he needs a best mate who says, ‘You’ve had an incredible career, and maybe at the end of this season, just hang up your boots and let people remember you for what you’ve achieved.’ He wouldn’t want to end up scoring only a handful of goals in the league.”
Despite his age, Ronaldo shows no signs of slowing down or losing his ambition. He remains driven to achieve his goal of 1,000 career goals, having recently surpassed 900.
